About OUR St. Lucie County Sheriff
Governor Ron DeSantis appointed longtime St. Lucie resident, Sheriff Keith Pearson to the office of Sheriff on December 1, 2023. Sheriff Pearson has over two decades of lawenforcement experience serving St.Lucie County.
Sheriff Pearson is the recipient of the United States Department of Justice Distinguished Service Medal and the United States Southern District Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award. He is also a four-time Deputy of the Quarter recipient and two-time Detective of the Quarter recipient. He earned St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Deputy of the Year in 2009 and Detective of the Year in 2012.
He has received numerous other awards, including 6 Unit Citations, 4 Meritorious Service awards, 3 Commendation certificates, 3 Save Driver awards, a Distinguished Service award, and a Certificate of Appreciation.
In November 2002, Sheriff Pearson began his law enforcement career with the Florida Department of Corrections. He joined the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office as a certified detention deputy in June 2003. Sheriff Pearson graduated from Indian River State College in October 2005 with his Associate of Science in Criminal Justice Technology.
At that time, he also completed his Crossover from Corrections to Law Enforcement training at the Indian River State College Criminal Justice Training Institute.
Over the course of his career, Sheriff Pearson has worked in various specialty units and teams within the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, including the Intelligence Unit, Special Investigations Unit, ATF Task Force, K-9 Unit, and SWAT Team, School Resource Unit, District Patrol Section, and Department of Corrections Emergency Response Team.
He achieved the rank of sergeant in August 2018 and lieutenant in January 2001.
Sheriff Pearson is statutorily responsible for the administration of law enforcement service in St. Lucie County, managing detention facilities, providing court security, and serving civil process. His duties also include leadership of more than 700 sworn and civilian professionals.
